New Zealand vs England: Batting first, New Zealand didn't enjoy a great start with Martin Guptill, returning after sitting out the last group game due to a suspect hamstring strain, getting out for 15 with New Zealand on 17. The other opener, Kane Williamson remained on course though for runs. He scored 32 runs from 28 balls with two suggestions of reprieves. In the end, he skied to mid-off region where bowler Moeen Ali held on to take it himself. (Source: Reuters)

New Zealand vs England: Partnering Kane Williamson for the third wicket, Colin Munro top scored for the Kiwis with 46 runs from 32 balls in a fierce display of batting. His inning included seven fours and one six to get 70 per cent of his runs in big hits. In clever piece of bowling by Liam Plunkett, he kept bowling outside Munro's reach with the first two balls. And on the third, the trend continued to eke out a big slice that carried neatly to Moeen Ali at third man. (Source: PTI)

New Zealand vs England: The large partnership of 74 runs created panic and worry for England who were seeing New Zealand cruise along and not suffer any blip on the way. But after Kane Williamson's dismissal, England had a slight hope and brought a new batsman to the crease. Then Colin Munro departed to give Eoin Morgan (in picture) some hope of getting an achievable target. (Source: Reuters)

New Zealand vs England: England once again banked on the bowling of Chris Jordan and the pacers and they delivered. Jordan finished with economical figures of 4-0-24-1 and picked the all important wicket of Ross Taylor that resulted in New Zealand's demise and curtail a prospective large score. (Source: AP)

New Zealand vs England: But England's top bowling figures were by Ben Stokes who finished with 4-0-26-3 with wickets of Corey Anderson, Luke Ronchi and Mitchell Santner. He dismissed Ronchi and Anderson off consecutive deliveries to bring up a hat-trick opportunity. Such was his prowess at the end that he conceded only six runs from his last two overs. New Zealand could only score 32 runs from the last five overs. (Source: AP)

New Zealand vs England: England were given a smashing start by Jason Roy and Alex Hales in which Roy scored the majority of the runs. His blistering knock of 78 runs from 44 balls (11 fours and two sixes) served as the impetus to England's chase and a comfortable finish in the end. His inning however was brought to a tame end with Ish Sodhi's turner staying low and creeping in to topple the bails. But by then, England were in a strong position to reach the target and plenty of wickets in hand. (Source: Reuters)

New Zealand vs England: With England cruising along at 110/1 without a worry in the world, Ish Sodhi gave New Zealand slender hope to at least take the game to the wire. First he removed Jason Roy and then added Eoin Morgan to the mix off consecutive deliveries. At 110/3 and needing 50 runs to win, New Zealand tried to create a late hope for themselves. But it was not New Zealand's day as Sodhi in the very same over bowled a terribly short delivery to be smacked for a four. In the next over, Sodhi was thumped for 22 runs to bring England closer to victory. (Source: PTI)

New Zealand vs England: Jos Buttler scored the winning runs for England with a massive six. In the previous over, he had smacked Ish Sodhi for 22 runs. This time it was the turn of Mitchell Santner who was taken to the cleaners as England needed just one run to seal the win with three overs remaining. Buttler scored 32 runs from 17 balls with two fours and three sixes and remained unbeaten. (Source: PTI)

New Zealand vs England: Joe Root stayed unbeaten on the other side of the pitch and celebrated as the winning runs were scored. Root played a sensible knock of 27 runs from 22 balls when England's strong start was broken after eight overs. Root's inning included three boundaries. (Source: PTI)
