Wagah-like retreat ceremony on India-Bangladesh border


Beginning Thursday,a 13-minute border closing retreat ceremony will be part of a new engagement between BSF personnel and their counterparts of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). (IE Photo: Subham Dutta)


The ceremony was officially inaugurated Wednesday at the Petrapole-Benapole border checkpost in North 24 Paragana,about 120 km form Kolkata. It has been modelled on the one at Wagah-Attari Indo-Pak border. (IE Photo: Subham Dutta)


The joint retreat ceremony is not only expected to strengthen the friendship between the BGB and the BSF but would reduce trouble along the border and will lead to better border management,Bangladesh Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir said. (IE Photo: Subham Dutta)

The Wednesday's ceremony included a cultural show titled 'Mohana' (confluence). It included renditions of Rabindranath Tagore and Nazrul Islam's songs. (IE Photo: Subham Dutta)

Replying to a question by reporters after the ceremony,Shinde said,"The political unrest in Bangladesh is a temporary phase. But the relationship between two countries is good. Bangladesh and India must remain united in days to come." (IE Photo: Subham Dutta)
