Fire at Mumbai restaurant claims 8 lives

Eight persons died after a fire broke out at a restaurant in Kurla on Friday afternoon (October 16).

Mumbai police along with fire brigade and team of forensic, investigating a spot after the incidence.

DCP Mahesh Patil said, “Today at Kurla about 13:00 hrs, fire broke out in Hotel City Kinara, in front of Holy Cross Church.”

Police sub-inspector Ganesh Baban Mohite looks for evidence from the burnt sample at the restaurant that caught fire.

DCP Mahesh Patil added,” 8 people are dead and bodies sent to Rajawadi Hospital. Fire engines are on the spot and inquiry is in progress.”

A Mumbai police official investigating the spot after the incident took place at a restaurant in Kurla.

An officer said that prima facie it appears to be a case of short circuit that led to the incident.

The restaurant ‘Hotel City Kinara’, a Chinese food joint, is located some distance away from the Kurla railway station.

“We suspect there was a gas leak on the first floor along with a short circuit that led to a blast. Those on the first floor got trapped over there and could not rush down where there was no damage,” said ACP Srirang Nadgouda.
