As final results start pouring in, it is now clear that Mamata Banerjee and J Jayalalithaa will retain their chief ministerships in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu respectively. Kerala has gone with Left this time as is the tradition, while Assam has chosen BJP after three terms of Tarun Gogoi.

Assembly electios 2016: As counting of ballots progressed, Trinamool Congress continued to surge ahead of its rivals in the Assembly elections in West Bengal leading in 210 seats, whereas the Congress-Left combine is ahead in 72 seats and BJP in seven seats.

Assembly elections 2016: Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, who is leading by 21,000+ votes in Bhawanipur, held a press conference in Kolkata on Thursday as the party's victory became clear.
Slamming the opposition, Mamata said, "People of West Bengal have rejected attempts to mislead them, and the conspiracies."
