Milad-un-Nabi marks the birthday of Prophet Mohammad, and though the festival is not celebrated with as much pomp and show as Eid, the day is observed with a special feast befitting the birthday celebrations of the founder of Islam. The food prepared during Milad-un-Nabi is known as Mawlid recipes, and feature the Prophet's favourite ingredients like dates and honey. In India and Pakistan, spicy meat dishes — lamb and mutton — are the usual favourites, and for dessert, Aseeda (a semolina dish) is said to be popular. So, in case you'd like to celebrate Milad-un-Nabi this year, here are some dishes to help you start off.
