
Janmashtami, also known as 'Krishna Janmashtami' is one of the most important festivals for Hindus. Celebrated every year to mark the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, the festival is being celebrated on September 6 this year, with dahi handi being observed on September 7. So, on this auspicious occasion, let's take a glimpse at how the country is celebrating Janmashtami.

The occasion is most popularly celebrated in Mathura (Krishna's birth place) and Vrindavan (where Krishna spent his childhood).
