Caffeine headache: Caffeine headache has been experienced by almost all who identify themselves as a 'coffee person'. It usually starts behind the eyes and works its way to the forehead. Though they sound silly, caffeine headaches can be quite debilitating and can be caused by a variety of reasons — such as caffeine withdrawal, overdose, sensitivity or allergy. Chronic daily headache: If you experince headaches more than just occasionally, consider the possibility of having chronic daily headaches. Their chronic nature makes them amongst the most disabling of disorders. It is diagnosed when daily persistent headaches present themselves for at least 15 days a moth for at least three months. Cluster headache: Cluster headaches occur in cyclical patterns and cluster on one side of the head, causing intense pain. It can be accompanied by other symptoms such as eye watering, nasal congestion and swelling around the eye, typically confined to the side of the head with the pain. The cluster periods can last from weeks to months — with the intensity to wake you from deep sleep. The pain of cluster headaches — which can trump migraines in intensity — has been described as burning, stabbing, boring or squeezing sensation near or behind the eye. (Source: Thinkstock Images)

Dental headache: The trigeminal nerve — one of the largest nerves in the head — is used in detection of almost all headaches and toothaches. Because of this relation, toothaches can sometimes cause headaches. Attempts to cope with toothache — such as muscle clenching and jaw tightening — can also lead to headache. Early morning headache: If how you start your day truly determines the quality of the rest of your day, sufferers of early morning headaches are doomed. Early morning headaches can be symptomatc of something larger — like a brain tumour, depression or a developing migraine disorder. They can be caused by a number reasons ranging from stress, lack of sleep and caffeine withdrawal to dehydration, lack of sodium in diet and may be even an ergonomically-poor pillow. Sinus headache: Caused by inflamed sinuses (small air spaces in the skull, found behind the nose, eyes and cheeks), sinus headaches are experienced as a throbbing pain in the upper face. Sinus headaches are caused by sinus infection — in which the cavities around your nose become swollen and inflamed. The pain gets worse with movement, bending down or sudden change in temperature. Untreated sinusitis can also spread to the teeth, upper jaw and other parts of the head. (Source: Thinkstock Images)

Emergency headache: If you have a sudden headache that reaches maximum intensity within seconds or a minute — also known as a thunderclap headache — it may signal the rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. This is called a brain aneurysm and needs immediate medical attention. If it is accompanied by confusion, dizziness, memory loss, slurred speech, loss of balance, weakness on one side of the body, seizures or blurred or double vision, it could also signal a stroke or brain tumour. Ice cream headache: This one will feel familiar to those with low patience. Remember that one time you slurped a cold drink too fast and experienced shooting pain in the head? That was a brain freeze — also known as ice-cream headache, cold-stimulus headache and trigeminal headache. Immediately consuming something hot is enough to ease the headache. Rebound headache: No, this one has nothing to with the side effects of heartache. These headaches are a rebound effect of medication. This essentially means the pain-relieving medication you take long-term causes you pain. This is why rebound headaches are also called medication-overuse headaches. (Source: Thinkstock Images)

Tension headache: Caused by, you guessed it, majorly stress — apart from inadequate sleep, poor posture, irregular meal time and eyestrain — tension headache has been described as feeling a constant pressure inflicted by a tight band around your head. It accounts for nearly 90 per cent of all headaches. (Source: Thinkstock Images)

Weekend headache: Also called the Saturday Syndrome, weekend headaches are caused by oversleeping or 'catching up on sleep' during the weekends. It can be managed by maintaining a regular sleep pattern for the whole week. Don't skip breakfast and keep the caffeine level steady as well, as a dip or a spike can trigger a headache when you want it the least.
