There’s a viral hack claiming eating one banana and having four glasses of water after that can fix acidity instantly. Does it actually work? We decided to do some digging. (Photo: Getty Images/Thinkstock)

Why does acidity happen in the first place? Acidity usually occurs when stomach acid flows back up into the food pipe. "This can happen due to eating too much spicy or oily food, skipping meals, lying down right after eating, or even stress. (Photo: Freepik)

"Common symptoms include a burning sensation in the chest, bloating, or a sour taste in the mouth," said Dt Gulnaaz Shaikh, chief dietitian, KIMS Hospitals, Thane. (Photo: Freepik)

So, is the hack effective? "It can offer relief, but it is not a magic fix for everyone. Bananas are naturally alkaline and gentle on the stomach. They may help soothe the stomach lining and reduce acid. Drinking water can dilute stomach acid temporarily. So, for mild acidity, this combo might provide some comfort," said Shaikh. Then why won’t it work for everyone? Because everyone’s body reacts differently. (Photo: Getty Images/Thinkstock)

"For some too much water at once can cause bloating or even worsen symptoms. While bananas are safe for most, a few people may find them gas-forming. Also if acidity is frequent or caused by deeper issues like acid reflux or ulcers, this simple hack wont be enough," Shaikh asserted. (Photo: Getty Images/Thinkstock)

Is it harmful to try this? Not really but moderation is key, cautioned Shaikh. "One banana and 1-2 glasses of water are fine. Drinking four large glasses at once can stretch the stomach and cause discomfort, especially if you already feel bloated," said Shaikh. (Photo: Freepik)

What should people really do to manage acidity? Eat smaller, more frequent meals. (Photo: Freepik)

"Avoid lying down right after eating. Limit spicy, fried, or processed foods. Stay hydrated throughout the day, not all at once. If acidity is a regular problem, consult a doctor instead of relying only on hacks," said Shaikh. (Photo: Pexels)
