Dr Mikki Singh, Chief Dermatologist and Medical Director at Bodycraft Clinic, Gurgaon, said drinking turmeric and pepper water is not a reliable or scientifically proven solution for acne-prone skin. "While turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and black pepper may enhance its absorption, consuming it alone will not address the root causes of acne," she revealed. (Source: Freepik)

Acne is a complex skin condition influenced by hormones, excess oil production, clogged pores, and bacteria—factors that cannot be treated simply by dietary changes. Effective acne management requires evidence-based treatments such as topical retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, oral medications (if needed), and professional dermatological procedures like chemical peels and lasers. Dr Shareefa Chause, Dermatologist, Dr Shareefa Skincare clinic, Mumbai, said even though turmeric and black pepper are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, relying on them as a solution for acne-prone skin may not be the best approach. Consuming these ingredients in excess could lead to irritation of skin rather than seeking relief. (Source: Freepik)

Dr Chause added that turmeric and black pepper, when taken in large amounts or applied directly to the skin, can cause irritation, redness, or sensitivity, especially when it comes to acne-prone skin.
"Don’t just believe in any random posts or forwards on social media. It is better to consult a dermatologist to understand the root cause of breakouts and follow a dedicated skincare routine tailored to your skin’s needs," she said. (Source: Freepik)

Relying on DIY remedies can delay proper treatment, leading to worsening acne and potential scarring. Instead of home remedies, experts always recommend consulting a dermatologist to get a tailored, science-backed skincare plan that works. (Source: Freepik)
