Security tightened in Uttam Nagar ahead of Eid after Delhi HC directions

Police personnel were deployed in the Uttam Nagar area on Friday, a day before Eid al-Fitr, as part of heightened security arrangements to maintain law and order

Around 400 central armed police forces personnel along with an equal number of district police were stationed in the area since March 5, with intensified bandobast in sensitive locations

The deployment followed rising tensions in the locality, with authorities maintaining strict vigil to prevent any untoward incidents ahead of the festival

Concerns escalated amid calls circulating in parts of the area and on social media, prompting intervention pleas against possible violence and hate speech

The situation stemmed from an incident during Holi earlier this month, when a 26-year-old man, Tarun Kumar, was beaten to death following a dispute between neighbours

The altercation began over a child’s water balloon that hit a Muslim woman on Holi, which escalated into a violent quarrel resulting in the fatality

Subsequently, the Delhi High Court directed the police and civil administration to take all necessary action to ensure the situation did not take any adverse turn

The court emphasised creating an atmosphere for a peaceful and dignified Eid celebration, ensuring safety and preventing any mischief that could disturb communal harmony
