Rajnath Singh said the media's role is to act as a guardian of democracy, and impartial journalism brings shine to the profession. "Media should show mirror to power but it should have no colours... don't mix news with ideology. It can pose a question mark on its credibility. "There is separate space for views in a newspaper," the minister said. To accept one's own mistake, he said, is a very courageous thing to do. "One does not become small by seeking forgiveness but this enhances your stature," he said. (Express Photo by Neeraj Priyadarshi)

Here's what the panelists said: Dhanya Rajendran, Editor, The News Minute: "After #MeToo, as journalists we need to think about what to do differently and how to report better." Meenal Baghel, Editor, Mumbai Mirror: "Social media for the first time gave women access to a public platform so that they could speak openly. The thing about #MeToo is that women are saying they will no longer be kept out of public debate." Ritu Kapoor, CEO of The Quint: "We need more women in newsrooms and all organisations. It has to constantly be a 50:50 gender representation. I don't mean hiding women, the voice of the women needs to be there on prime time. It's also important for us as a country to reshape our laws." Rupa Jha, Head of Indian Languages, BBC World Service: "MeToo has been a movement of both women and men. It has given us feminists, a chance to change the social space. As editors we can be the starting point of social change. It's not going to be easy, but we have the chance to do it."
