BJP MP Nishikant Dubey submitted a notice in Lok Sabha on Thursday to move a substantive motion against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he had misled the House and seeking cancellation of his parliamentary membership

Dubey’s notice also demanded that Rahul Gandhi be barred from contesting elections, escalating the political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress in Parliament

Reacting to media queries on the motion while leaving Parliament, Rahul Gandhi criticised news coverage, saying the media was failing in its responsibility to remain objective

Gandhi alleged that media outlets were relying on daily “keywords” provided by the government, arguing that such coverage amounted to doing a disservice to the country

He further remarked that journalists should do independent work rather than functioning in alignment with the BJP’s narrative, calling the situation increasingly shameful

Speaking to The Indian Express, Nishikant Dubey claimed he had raised concerns about Rahul Gandhi’s alleged engagements with the Soros Foundation, the Ford Foundation, USAID, and his foreign travel, which he accused of being linked to anti-India activities

The notice followed Rahul Gandhi’s recent criticism of the government over the India-US trade deal, where he argued it could undermine India’s energy security and farmers’ interests

During the Union Budget discussion in the House, Gandhi used a martial-arts-inspired analogy to accuse the government of weaponising energy, finance, and data, while Congress MP Imran Masood said the Opposition should be given a chance to respond if the motion proceeds
