PM Modi files nomination from Varanasi, Union ministers accompany in BJP show of strength

Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination in Varanasi on Tuesday, an event attended by several NDA leaders, including Union ministers and chief ministers (PTI)

Modi seeks a third term from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat (PTI)

Modi reached the district collectorate after an aarti on the banks of the Ganga at the Dashashwamedh ghat and prayers at the Kaal Bhairav temple (PTI)

Sporting a white kurta-pajama and a blue sadri, the PM headed for the district collectorate, where he also addressed party workers after filing his papers (PTI)

BJP president J P Nadda and Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Hardeep Singh Puri, Anupriya Patel and Ramdas Athawale were among the leaders who accompanied the PM (PTI)

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan and others were present at the collectorate (PTI)

There were 4 proposers for Modi's nomination — Ganeshwar Shastri, long-time RSS functionary Baijnath Patel, Lalchand Kushwaha and Sanjay Sonkar. UP CM Yogi Adityanath was also present (PTI)

The PM held a roadshow in Varanasi a day before filing the nomination and vowed to serve the city and work more in his third term (PTI)

Voting in Varanasi will take place in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha election on June 1 (PTI)

The Congress has fielded its state unit president Ajay Rai from the seat and the BSP has nominated Athar Jamal Lari (PTI)
