
Incessent overnight rain, followed by intermittent showers during the day, threw parts of Mumbai out of gear on Friday. Several areas across the city experienced water logging due to the high intensity rainfall.

Alerts by the IMD are colour-coded from green to red. A ''green'' alert stands for ''no warning'': no action needs to be taken by the authorities, and the forecast is of light to moderate rain. A ''red'' alert stands for "warning", and asks authorities to "take action". An ‘orange’ alert indicates that the authorities are expected to “be prepared”. (PTI)

At least 22 people have been killed and six injured in two separate incidents of landslide and house collapse following the heavy rains that lashed the city. As many as 11 incidents of wall house collapse and landslide, 13 short-circuit incidents, tree-falling in nine areas were reported between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish at the loss of lives caused by wall collapse incidents in Mumbai due to heavy rains. His office also announced Rs two lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. A sum of Rs 50,000 would be given to the injured. A sudden change in climatic conditions led to Mumbai witnessing over 100 mm rainfall in six hours, the IMD said in an early morning bulletin. It also changed the rains forecast for the city from orange to red alert.

The IMD said that till 6.30 am on Sunday, Mumbai and adjoining areas received over 120 mm rainfall in preceding 12 hours. Mumbai would receive “heavy to very heavy” rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, the IMD said. (PTI)

According to PTI, Western Railway announced suspension of suburban services due to water logging at "multiple locations." Central Railway said that due to water logging on tracks at Dadar, Parel, Matunga, Kurla, Sion, Bhandup and other locations, train services on main line were suspended between CSMT and Thane. The downpour has caused heavy flooding in low-lying areas of Chunabhatti, Sion, Dadar, and Gandhi Market, Chembur and Kurla LBS Road. The state government has announced an aid of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of those deceased in the landslides and house collapse at various places in Mumbai including Chembur, Vashi Naka and Vikhroli Park site.
