A number of Indians of Chinese descent Saturday held a protest in Kolkata against China's activities on the Line of Actual Control, holding the national flag and sloganeering in support of the Indian Army. The agitation was held at city's China Town.
The death of 20 Indian Army soldiers during a clash with Chinese troops at Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh earlier this week has triggered protests in the country, including a call to boycott all things Chinese in the country.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs, earlier in the day, rejected China’s claim of sovereignty over the Galwan Valley and stated that attempts by Beijing to now advance “exaggerated and untenable claims” with regard to LAC there are not acceptable.
On Friday, China had said the Galwan Valley was “located on the Chinese side of the LAC, making an unprecedented formal claim on an area that has always been under India’s control.
The Galwan Valley has not figured in China’s maps since 1962.
