A 2,250-square-foot single-storey house collapsed following a suspected cylinder blast in North Delhi’s Mukundpur area on Tuesday, injuring at least six people, officials and residents said

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) inspected the site and rescued those injured from the debris

Neighbours said no one is believed to be trapped under the rubble

The cause of the collapse is under investigation. However, neighbours and officials alleged that a large number of cylinders were being stored illegally inside the house where the blast occurred

“Prima facie, the building collapse happened due to illegal cylinder refilling that was taking place inside the premises,” an official said

Aman Kumar, a neighbour, said the property is owned by two brothers, Kamta Singh and Bablu Singh, who allegedly operated an illegal cylinder business from the premises

Neighbours also claimed that utensil polishing and charger-related work was being carried out at the location

Police, NDRF personnel and officials from the Department of Food and Supplies are also inspecting a nearby building where authorities suspect additional cylinders may have been stored illegally

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the blast or whether any violations were committed. “Further investigation is underway,” the official said

Dharmendra Rawat Damu, AAP councillor, Ward 9 Sant Nagar Burari, alleged that they’ve complained several times but the authorities did not pay heed to their complaints
