In pictures: Delhi weekend curfew

Delhi entered a weekend curfew on Saturday, the first in several months as Covid-19 cases increased in the city, fuelled largely by the Omicron variant. Roads wore a deserted look.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said the national capital is likely to record 20,000 Covid cases today, with a positivity rate of around 19 per cent.

With commercial establishments shut, Connaught Place was empty.

The police has set up security points across the city during the weekend curfew. Here's a picture of a check post near India Gate. Only essential services are allowed to operate during the curfew.

Several people are exempted from the weekend curfew, including healthcare workers, government officials, persons going out for testing and vaccination etc.

Delhi will be under curfew from 10 pm Friday to 5 am Monday.

Delhi's cumulative caseload on Friday was 15,06,798 while the death toll rose to 25,136. The number of active cases in the city stands at 39,873.
