
The BJP Mahila Morcha in Assam staged a protest rally in Guwahati on Thursday against the Congress and the INDIA bloc over the stalling of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026

Members of the party's mahila morcha, along with senior leaders, began the procession from the Veterinary Field at Khanapara and marched through major thoroughfares of the city

Addressing the gathering, BJP state president Dilip Saikia accused the Congress of failing to ensure political rights for women despite being in power for decades after Independence

He asserted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the goal of 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies would soon be realised

Saikia also accused the Congress and other opposition parties of promoting dynastic politics, alleging that they had historically prioritised women from their own families

Former Union Minister Bijoya Chakravarty asserted that women must and will secure their rightful place in governance

State BJP Mahila Morcha president Nilima Devi also accused the Congress of being anti-women

Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, Guwahati MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi and leaders from NDA allies including AGP, BPF and Rabha Hasong also joined the procession
