During a press interaction at the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow on Saturday, Akhilesh Yadav announced a series of promises aimed at farmers ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections

He said that if the Samajwadi Party forms the government in Uttar Pradesh, sugarcane farmers would receive payment for their produce within 24 hours of issuance of the purchase slip

He proposed the creation of a Rs 15,000 crore farmer revolving fund to ensure timely payments and reduce dependency delays faced by cultivators

He also promised loan waivers through legislation, along with crop insurance, free irrigation facilities, and assured minimum support price for farmers

He claimed that agricultural facilities in Lucknow had been repurposed for commercial use and criticised rising input costs such as fertilisers, seeds, and diesel

He further suggested promoting organic farming, stronger links between farmers and research institutions, and questioned the focus on “smart cities” while proposing a vision for “smart villages.”

He alleged that development initiatives for farmers during the earlier SP government, including mandi infrastructure along expressways, had slowed or been discontinued
