Model-turned-actress Vaani Kapoor has every reason to celebrate as she's the current talk-of-the-town after being confirmed as the lead actress of Yash Raj Films' 'Befikre' opposite Ranveer Singh. The two-film-old beauty had made her Bollywood debut with Maneesh Sharma's 'Shuddh Desi Romance', also helmed by YRF two years ago. "It is like a dream come true," said Vaani on the joyous news.
Minutes after announcing her as their lead actress in their next project, 'Befikre', Yash Raj Films shared some pictures of Vaani's look tests online and the actress sure looks like an absolute cutie that is guaranteed to win hearts. While speaking to The Indian Express however, Vaani refused to divulge any details about the film or her role. "I am sorry. I don’t want to sound impolite. But I can’t say anything right now," she said.
'Befikre', which stars 'Ram-Leela' actor Ranveer Singh in the male lead role, was announced by Aditya Chopra on the eve of his father late Yash Chopra’s 83rd birth anniversary. The movie will see Chopra returning back to direction after seven long years. His last directorial was Shah Rukh Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'.
Vaani Kapoor first debuted onscreen in the television series called 'Rajuben'. She later signed a three film deal with Yash Raj Films. It was an audition that confirmed her role in 'Shuddh Desi Romance', where she shared screen space with Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra.
In an earlier interview with Indian Express, Vaani Kapoor had expressed her joy at working with Yash Raj Films. The actress had said that she always dreamed of working with late director Yash Chopra. However, she was thrilled to debut with the Yash Raj Film banner. “I’ve been a very loyal audience to Yash Raj Films. And now, I’m very lucky to be on the other side as an artist," Vaani had said.
After her film debut, Vaani then acted in a Tamil romantic comedy film, 'Aaha Kalyanam' which was a remake of Band Baaja Baraat. However, following that, the actress waited patiently for her next outing.
In a video shot at the Yash Raj Films' casting office, Vaani reveals that it was tough waiting for her next big break. "It has been two years since my first movie came and these years have been quite tough. After winning most of the promising awards that year, I somehow expected offers to just flood in. Clearly, things didn't quite fall into place the way i pictured."
Vaani further adds, "I waited and waited and waited. And soon these waiting months turned into a whole year. And then people started speculating whether my career would fade even before it began. So after sometime Aditya Chopra called me and said I am penning down a script which will be directed by someone else. And I want you to workshop for it."
After a year of waiting for the right project, Vaani Kapoor was then out on to intensive workshops. "I had to prepare one English movie scene and one English song every week," she says. Vaani's preparation process went on for six months after which she was called in again. "Aditya Chopra sat me down and said, 'I was going to take another month for a script reading before I took my final call. But, I think you're already in this movie.'" And he also casually broke it to her that he will be directing the film himself.
Clearly on cloud 9, Vaani Kapoor has been flooded with congratulatory wishes for 'Befikre'. The actress took to Twitter to express her gratitude, "A Big thank you to all for good wishes :)," she posted.
