Prem Ratan Dhan Payo box office collections: How Salman Khan film cruised to the top

It's no surprise that a Salman Khan film has swept the Box Office, especially since it released on a festive day, Diwali. However, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has created fireworks in terms of its collections that are still steadily growing. Also starring Sonam Kapoor, the Sooraj Barjatya film is the first of the year to have collected Rs 200 crore.

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ opened to 4,500 and counting screens only in India and 800 screens abroad, bringing the total of 5300 plus screens. The opening day saw good figures with Rs. 40.35 crore in domestic markets and Rs. 10.62 crore overseas.

Day 2 saw a steady crowd as fans flocked to theatres to watch the onscreen magic that Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya have recreated. Still in the festive mood, audiences brought the collections even higher to Rs. 31.03 crore, bringing the total to Rs. 71.38 crore.

Salman Khan’s festive good charm for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo carried right through the weekend. The collection on Day 3 (Saturday) was Rs. 30.07 crore, making ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ enter the Rs 100 crore club in just three days. “#PremRatanDhanPayo crosses ₹ 100 cr on Day 3 [Sat]. Biz should again witness an upward trend today [Sun]. Big 4-day total on the cards...,” tweeted trade analyst, Taran Adarsh.

'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' rounded off the weekend with a decent collection on Day 4 (Sunday) as well, which was Rs. 28.30 crore. The total collection of the Salman Khan starrer was now at a whopping Rs. 129.77 crore. It was also the fifth film to enter the Rs 100 crore club in 2015 after ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Anybody Can Dance 2’. Taran Adarsh shared the numbers “#PremRatanDhanPayo India nett: ₹ 129.77 cr. India gross: ₹ 191 cr... Overseas: $ 8.9 million [₹ 59 cr]. Worldwide gross: ₹ 250 cr. AWESOME!”

Day 5 (Monday) of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in theatres felt the wrath of the week, as its collections fell to a mere Rs. 13.62 crore. Taran Adarsh continued to share the numbers, “#PremRatanDhanPayo Thu 40.35 cr, Fri 31.05 cr, Sat 30.07 cr, Sun 28.30 cr, Mon 13.62 cr. Total: ₹ 143.39 cr. Hindi version. India biz.”

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ was doing fairly decent during the week, collecting Rs. 12.04 on day 6 (Tuesday), bringing a total to Rs. 155.43 core in domestic markets. Adding the overseas figures, the collections leap to Rs. 214.17 crore.

On Day 7 (Wednesday), 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' just about managed to keep its collections in double digits, with Rs. 10.02 crore. Taran Adrash shared the break-up of the first week, which made a total of Rs. 165.45 crore. “#PremRatanDhanPayo Thu 40.35 cr, Fri 31.05 cr, Sat 30.07 cr, Sun 28.30 cr, Mon 13.62 cr, Tue 12.04 cr, Wed 10.02 cr. ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ fell to single digits on day 8 (Thursday), making Rs. 7.37 crore at the Box Office. The release, of new James Bond film, ‘Spectre’ on Friday, (Day 9) affected its earning even more. The film made its lowest – Rs. 6.70 crore.

Day 10 (Saturday) of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in theatres, saw a slight pick-up with rs. 6.70 crore and rs. 8.20 crore on day 11 (Sunday). The collections were now Rs. 193.22 at the domestic Box Office. Taking the foreign markets into account, the collections add up to Rs. 279.22 crore. In its second week running, there is still hope for the film to make its way to Rs. 200 crore.

Salman Khan has also become the first Bollywood actor to have entered the Rs 500 crore club in one year. His two movies - Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Bajrangi Bhaijaan - released in 2015 have collectively earned Rs 500 crore. 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan's collections were over Rs 315 crores and PRDP has earned Rs 193 crore till now.
