Entertainment Gallery Justice League vs Thor Ragnarok box office: Here’s how DC trailed behind Marvel in 2017 Here's a round up of how Marvel and DC performed at the Indian box office this year, with film like Justice League, Thor: Ragnarok and other hitting the theatres. DC Extended Universe's much-awaited superhero film Justice League hit cinemas across the world on November 17. And rather unsurprisingly, this ensemble of DC's biggest superheroes has had the most polarising reception possible by the critics, just like its previous Batman vs Superman. However, at the Indian box office, Justice League was able to mint a total of Rs 7.82 crore on its opening day. On the other hand, DC universe's sunnier competitor Marvel had a wondrous release in the form of Thor: Ragnarok at the theatres earlier this month. And compared to its box office performance, it is hard not to feel bad about the Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot starrer. Thor: Ragnarok had opened at Rs 9.91 crore at the Indian box office, as tweeted by trade analyst Taran Adarsh. But Thor's rave reviews quickly hiked its pace and the film went on to make Rs 27.66 crore in the first weekend. A Forbes report said, "Still, Justice League won’t match Thor: Ragnarok’s ₹34 crore/$5.2 million opening weekend tally in India, the 2nd best for a Hollywood import this year behind the 41.7 crore debut of Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming." However, compared to Indian releases Tumhari Sulu and Aksar 2, Justice League is easily topping the charts. Tumhari Sulu opened at Rs 2.87 crore and Aksar 2 at an even more downgraded figure. Till now, Thor: Ragnarok has made a total of Rs 72.91 crore and is continuing its hold at the cinemas. Even holdover hits like Golmaal Again and others were not able to shake Thor's hold. All in all, DC had two releases this year Justice League and Wonder Woman while Marvel had four -- Thor: Ragnarok, Spiderman: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Logan. Spiderman: Homecoming which hit the theatres on July 7, 2017 earned as much as Rs 30.25 crore over the weekend, according to a report on Boxofficeindia.com. But talking about the Marvel and DC race, it would be incomplete without talking about Wonder Woman, DC's major sleeper hit this year. Wonder Woman had opened at Rs 2.50 crore, raking inRs 3.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 3 crore on Sunday and finally rounding it up with a weekend total of Rs 10.25 crore, as reported by boxofficeindia.com. And last but not the least, Guardians of the Galaxy made approximately 7.50 crores over its opening weekend at the India box office.
