Actor Mithun Chakraborty danced his way to the top and gained a special place for himself in hearts of his fans. Establishing himself as one of the most popular actors in the industry, Mithun went on to be labeled, as Bollywood’s very own Disco Dancer, winning a number of accolades for his contribution to cinema.

Disco Dancer: Mithun Chakraborty’s performance as a wedding singer in the 1982 film made him a star. The rag-to-riches story where he plays a street performer is especially known for the famous number, ‘I am a Disco Dancer’ which became a huge hit.

Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye: In 1983, Mithun Chakraborty starred in a number of family and romantic dramas. One such film was ‘Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye’ along with Rekha, Rati Agnihotri, Danny Denzongpa and Ranjeeta. The film revolved around the social issue of a single parent and Mithun played the role of Suresh Ray in the film.

Guru: Another more recent performance of Mithun Chakraborty was in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Guru’, which also starred Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. His portrayal of Manik "Nanaji" Dasgupta in the film won him a lot of approval and a Filmfare nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Ghulami: Mithun Chakraborty teamed up with J.P. Dutta for ‘Ghulami’ along with Dharmendra, Naseeruddin Shah, Reena Roy and Smita Patil. The film focused on the rebellion of jats against the caste system in Rajasthan and was a box office hit.

Agneepath: Mithun Chakraborty co-starred with Amitabh Bacchan in ‘Agneepath’ which ended up being a cult classic in Hindi cinema, despite failing at the Box Office. Mithun’s performance in the crime drama flick as a south Indian Krishnan Iyer MA , earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Jallad: In 1995, Mithun Chakraborty appeared in a double role for T V L Prasad’s ‘Jallad’ that also starred Moushmi Chatterjee, Rambha, Madhoo, Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor. His performance in the film won him the Filmfare Best Villain Award and Star Screen Award Best Villain of the year.

Hum Paanch: 1980 saw Mithun Chakraborty in Bapu’s multi-starrer ‘Hum Paanch’ featuring Sanjeev Kumar, Shabana Azmi, Deepti Naval, Naseeruddin Shah, Raj Babbar, Amrish Puri and Aruna Irani among others. The film was an adaptation of the Mahabharata, made to fit a rural setting.

Chingaari: Mithun Chakraborty also received much acclaim for his film, ‘Chingaari’ in 2006. The actor played the role of a villainous priest who does his best to keep two lovers apart played by Sushmit Sen and Anuj Sawhney.

Pyar Jhukta Nahin: Another of Mithun Chakraborty’s notable films is ‘Pyar Jhukta Nahin’ where he played the role of a middle class photographer Ajay who marries a rich girl, played by Padmini Kolhapure.
