Avengers Infinity War dropped like a bomb yesterday evening. Fans, who have waited for this film for more than ten years, erupted with joy, excitement, anxiety and other emotions too complex to put into words. Infinity War is the penultimate film in the Avengers series and marks the arrival of Thanos to earth to acquire all the Infinity Stones. Arrayed against him are the vast majority of Marvel superheroes, including Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy and other characters. While we were going to watch the movie anyway, the trailer made the wait more agonising. Here are some high-resolution stills from the trailer for you to see and ponder over.
Gone are the frivolity and the jocular disposition from Tony Stark's face as Gamora talks about Thanos. Of course, he was pretty much like that at the end of Captain America: Civil War, but the very name of Thanos has scared the living daylights out of him, and knowing the Mad Titan it is more than understandable.
In another shot, we see him sitting gloomily with his armour in tatters. Is he mourning somebody's death? Spidey? Captain America?
Even Rocket, a fur ball of naivety and caustic humour, looks apprehensive.
Vision is a walking MacGuffin, and on his head is an object Thanos fervently desires: the Mind Stone. This is why he may be the key to the conflict since Loki will likely offer the Space Stone on a platter to Thanos to save his hide. Time Stone may be tortured out of Doctor Stranger by Ebony Maw as we saw in the trailer itself. Soul Stone is nowhere to be seen (yet). So maybe it all boils down to the Mind Stone. And that is why the final battle will take place in Wakanda as Vision will be taken there to protect or use as a bait.
Thanos! The reason why there are about two dozen superheroes required to face the Mad Titan is that he really cannot be stopped by one, or two, or ten alone. Even all of them will not be enough if he acquires all the Infinity Stones.
That armour! Thanos is a genocidal galactic dictator, and he also looks like one. Although, this is just a flashback, and he may not even need to wear an armour if he owns the Infinity Stones, it would be great if he uses this golden armour in the final battle.
Captain America, Black Widow meeting the Wakandans. Probably to discuss the battle plans and how to best protect the Infinity Stones. This battle may rival Battle of the Pelennor Fields from The Lord of the Rings in scale and magnificence.
Many reports and action figures seem to confirm that this is Hulk or more likely Bruce Banner in the Hulkbuster suit. Bruce claimed in Thor: Ragnarok that if he turned into the famous green monster again he may not turn back into his human form. But we do seem him in his human form in the trailer, but will we see Hulk?
Thor, meanwhile, is getting his head crushed by Thanos. Chris Hemsworth did say that he would love to continue playing Thor after Avengers 4. Was that a ruse? Will he die in Infinity War? More to the point, who exactly will die? It will surely be one among the big superheroes like Captain America or Iron Man.
