Passengers are having a harrowing time because of the train cancellations or delays at the Chandigarh railway station. While many have been stranded there for the last two days, others have been enduring a lot of hardship to find a place to stay. Newsline spoke to a few such passengers at the station who complained about lack of facilities and information at the station.

“The Garib Rath Express coming from Jaipur took 20 hours to reach Chandigarh on Wednesday morning. Normally,it takes about 10 hours to reach; but it had to be diverted from Panipat on the Ludhiana track. The train was ill-equipped to provide emergency facilities to the passengers,” said Ganesh Sharma from Himachal Pradesh, who is a civil engineer. He is stuck at the Chandigarh railway station because the Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi Express was cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday.

Bipul Banerjee and Dipankar Kaute have been stranded at the railway station from Wednesday as they found no accommodation after their bookings on the Kalka-Howrah train were cancelled twice.

“The railway authorities are confused and no proper information is provided about the arrivals. There are many people who are suffering due to cancellation of trains and some of them have no place to go so they have to stay at the station only,” said Banerjee.

All trains from Chandigarh to Delhi,Allahabad and other destinations have been canceled, yet online ticket bookings are on,and adding to the confusion, they said.
