Filmmaker and writer TP Singh has come up with London to Amritsar, yet another Punjabi comedy flick, exclusively made for the NRIs. A funny film about a NRI Punjabi living in London,it has been made following the growing trend of people marrying off their children to NRIs. The film has been made not merely to attract audience. I wanted to reach out to the Punjabi diaspora that has forgotten its own culture, says Singh.
Singh’s last films titled Dard Pardesan De and Bebe Valait Vich, were received well by the audience. London to Amritsar is a typical love story in which Kat,a Punjabi girl, who stays in London with her mother, comes to Amritsar, meets a boy and falls in love with him. She rediscovers her roots and the Punjabi culture. Singh says that the film is not only about challenging the mindsets of those in the West, but also of those in Punjab and other parts of the world. Through this film,I want to send out the message that in the craze of heading abroad, people should not go on the wrong track. There are certain cultural boundaries that we all need to respect, The Punjabi dubbing for the film has been done by city-based writer Rubina, who is also a script writer for the popular Colors show,Na Aana Is Des Lado. Singh is already working on his next Desh Apna Apna,a film about brotherhood.
