Educationists discuss CCE system of CBSE

“There is a need to understand the needs of each individual child. That can be done through Special Support Sections in each school to take extra care of children who are slow learners.

“There is a need to understand the needs of each individual child. That can be done through Special Support Sections (SSS) in each school to take extra care of children who are slow learners. The onus of bringing that change in a student lies with a teacher,” said Jayshree Venkatraman, principal of DAV Public School. He said this in Yashada today at a meeting of principals and teachers of about 22 CBSE schools to discuss the Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE) process introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). They discussed the pros and cons of the method and effective ways of implementing it in their respective schools.

Speaking about how slow learners can be brought up to the level of the fast ones,Nirmala Tambe, principal,Army Public School,Kirkee, said,“There are different ways of going about it. One is coming up with concepts like SSS or setting up question papers of different levels,a relatively tougher one for the bright students and a little easier one for the weaker students. When these students score good, they get a confidence.”

Also, remedial centres are being made mandatory in schools. “Implementation of CCE is being done at various levels. How successful it is can only be seen with time,” added Tambe.

The principals are hopeful that CCE will be successful in revolutionising education. “The CCE system is already being implemented in the western countries and it has been a success. There needs to be greater co-ordination between teachers and principals,” said Venkatraman.
