Buddha just before hush hour: Look at railways, then only vote

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today sought to make amends for his yesterday’s statement where he had urged BJP voters to vote for the CPM.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today sought to make amends for his yesterday’s statement where he had urged BJP voters to vote for the CPM.

Addressing a gathering on the last day of campaigning for the May 30 civic polls today, the CM dubbed the BJP a “communal party” and said his party would not let it spread its base in West Bengal. Bhattacharjee was addressing a meeting in Salt Lake.

The CM hit out at Mamata Banerjee, saying despite having six ministers at the Centre, her party Trinamool Congress has done nothing. “What can I say about them? They cannot criticise constructively, but seem to be talking baselessly. Look at what they are saying about Stephen Court. They are saying we set fire. Every day,we hear about some train accident or mishap or complaints about bad food,” he said.

Bhattacharjee also targetted Banerjee for her party’s alleged nexus with Maoists. “They are saying there are no Maoists. Can you believe that? Every day,so many people are dying,”

“Do you want the Salt Lake municipality to be run as the railways is being run? Please ask your conscience and vote,” the CM said.

Meanwhile,CPM state secretary Biman Bose sought to defend the CM,saying his remarks the previous day was meant for a large section of BJP supporters who are not downright “communal” like RSS or BJP activists.

Bose repeated his earlier remarks that he feared large-scale violence in the municipal polls. “Even on Wednesday, four LF supporters were killed by the Maoists backed by the Trinamool Congress. I still fear that will try to create an atmosphere which will jeopardise the peaceful polling,” he said.
