AIFF letter to Bagan to resolve Bhutia issue

Mohun Bagan at last has heard something from the All India Football Federation on the Bhaichung Bhutia issue.

Mohun Bagan at last has heard something from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on the Bhaichung Bhutia issue.

The club has received a letter from the AIFF (read AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco) asking the management to drop in at Delhi to discuss the matter. The Federation has appointed Colaco to resolve the issue after Bhutia sought release from the green-and-maroons.

“The AIFF has told us to come for a meeting on August 15 or 16. But we don’t have time on the given dates. So we have requested them to defer the meeting by a day or two,” Mohun Bagan’s finance secretary Debashis Dutta told The Indian Express.

“We firmly believe that Bhutia is our player as he still has a year left of his contract with us. But we don’t want to take any drastic step unless provoked and want to settle the argument as early as possible. We are open to discussion,” he added.

Bhutia has entered into an agreement with East Bengal after Mohun Bagan suspended him for six months without pay on disciplinary grounds.

EB coach unhappy with YBK turf
The Yuba Bharati Krirangan (YBK) is getting a facelift with the installation of synthetic turf, but East Bengal coach Subhas Bhowmick seems to be not very satisfied with its quality. Today,he described the YBK turf as “B-grade”.

Incidentally, the YBK makeover was an initiative taken by the ex-sports minister of West Bengal Subhas Chakraborty who died on August 3. The work is in final stage and the stadium is expected to host a few matches of the IFA Shield that starts from August 28.
