There are 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. In the 2014 general elections, BJP had won 62 seats, BSP 10, SP 5, ADS 2, and INC 1. BJP had registered a historic mandate in the last elections, winning 282 seats - an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha. The Congress was reduced to its worst-ever tally, winning only 44 constituencies. Riding on Modi wave and a strong anti-incumbency against the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, the saffron party came back to power after 2004, when the party had faced a crushing defeat.
