BSP president Mayawati Wednesday called the Centre’s decision to move Supreme Court over disputed land in Ayodhya as a means of forced government interference by BJP to affect the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BSP chief’s attack comes a day after the Centre moved the Supreme Court seeking permission to return the land around 2.77 acres of the disputed site from the 67 acre-land acquired in Ayodhya to its original owners.
Mayawati also alleged the central BJP government of running against the spirit of Constitution on the basis of casteism, communalism, religious frenzy, tension and violence along with the negative and harmful scheme of narrow nationalism.
“Their yesterday’s step of moving the Supreme Court to return the piece of acquired land to Ram Janam Bhoomi Nyas, in connection to the Ayodhya land dispute, is of forced government interference. It is also a narrow-minded controversial step to affect the Lok Sabha elections before they take place, and the people should be careful of that. In any way, the government effort to ruin the present state of acquired land owned by the Supreme Court is wrong and inciting,” read a statement issued by her office.
“The BJP government, which has lost the trust of people because of their unfulfilled promises, only had the gimmick of wrong and political use of Ayodhya and other religious matters… and they are now completely involved in using these. The people of this country are badly affected, oppressed and afflicted with the politics of this kind, but the BJP still believes that they have this last gimmick… This is definitely not in the welfare of people,” it said.
It further stated: “BJP has realised that because of the SP-BSP alliance they are not coming back in power. Scared by that, the BJP has started doing things which the people of this country would not expect from an elected government running on the base of our constitution… Yesterday’s step in the Supreme Court appears to be similar, in which a narrow-minded nationalism is clearly visible.”
In the statement, Mayawati mentioned that the narrow-minded nationalism is similar in their other decisions, mainly the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill against which people in the north-eastern state are agitated and the BJP is making unconstitutional efforts to kill the struggle.
