There are 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand. In the 2014 general elections, BJP had won 11 seats, AJSU Party 1, JMM 1, and INC 1. BJP had registered a historic mandate in the last elections, winning 282 seats - an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha. The Congress was reduced to its worst-ever tally, winning only 44 constituencies. Riding on Modi wave and a strong anti-incumbency against the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, the saffron party came back to power after 2004, when the party had faced a crushing defeat.
