Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s son Vikramaditya Singh, PCC president Sukhwinder Sukhu, Transport Minister G S Bali , AICC general secretary Asha Kumari and BJP’s Shimla MLA, Suresh Bhardwaj, were among the prominent leaders who filed their nomination papers on Monday. All leaders put up a show of strength as they filed their papers on the last day of filing nominations.
Pramod Sharma, a university professor and former loyalist of Virbhadra Singh, also led an impressive procession to file his nomination papers from Shimla (Rural), a constituency from where Vikramaditya Singh is contesting for the first time.
Vikramaditya was accompanied by his father, Virbhadra Singh, mother Pratibha Singh and sister Aparajita Kumari to file nomination papers, after visiting Shimla’s famous Kali Bari temple.
On Monday, 275 candidates filed their papers in 12 districts.Total number of candidates who has filed their nominations is 475.
CPM candidates who filed their papers were Sanjay Chauhan, a former Mayor contesting from Shimla (Urban) and Dr Kuldeep Tanwar, fielded from Kasumpti (Shimla). Their followers too marched through the streets in a show of strength.
Harish Janartha, a congress rebel and currently vice-Chairman of HPTDC ,also filed his nomination papers as a large number of his supporters also heard raising slogans against official congress candidate Harbhajan Singh Bhajji contesting Shimla (Urban) . In 2012, Janartha, a close CM loyalist,had contested here but this time he was denied ticket.
BJP senior leader Suresh Bhardwaj led road show on his way to file nomination papers from Shimla (Urban). PCC president Sukhwinder Sukhu filed papers from Nadaun constituency in Hamirpur. He was joined by Congress deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma. Dalhousie MLA Asha Kumari filed for reelection from the same seat. Transport Minister G S Bali also had a grand event at Nagrota Bhagwan, his bastion in Kangra district .He filed nomination papers amid slogans of his victory by supporters.
Harshvardhan of Congress and Baldev Tomar of BJP filed their nominations from Shaili. In Bilaspur, BJP candidate Randhir Sharma filed from Naina Devi Ji constituency. In Kullu, Sunder Thakur of Congress filed his papers, while Govind Thakur of BJP filed from Manali . BJP candidate Tejwant Singh of BJP and Jagat Singh Negi of Congress filed nominations from Kinnaur.
