The NCP on Thursday said it was ready to form a pre-poll alliance with Congress. Speaking with The Indian Express on Thursday, state NCP president Jayant Patel alias Bosky said,”The NCP wants to fight polls in alliance with the Congress to defeat the BJP’’. However, he asserted that his party would fight alone if Congress does not agree for alliance. In 2012, the Congress had given five assembly seats to the NCP.
After the Rajya Sabha elections, state Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki had announced that Congress will have no seat sharing arrangement with NCP after its two MLAs reportedly voted for BJP candidates in the polls.
But, NCP maintained that only one of its two MLAs Kandhal Jadeja voted for BJP. It said Bosky voted for Congress.
“I have umpteen times clarified that I voted in favour of Congress but Congress leaders are not ready to believe me,” said Bosky.
He said the Congress must understand the situation. “They have no ground to accuse NCP of ditching Congress when its own MLAs voted for BJP,” Bosky said.
The NCP leader said that he was in touch with the state Congress leaders. “If an alliance is not worked out, then the NCP will fight on its own,” he said.
Congress sources said that NCP does not have any base in the state. “We don’t require the NCP in Gujarat at all’’, said a senior Congress leader.
