Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti’s Mehsana convenor Narendra Patel, who had alleged that BJP leaders had bribed him to quit PAAS, moved an application before the Gandhinagar court, seeking criminal prosecution of former PAAS member Varun Patel, Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani, BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) chief Rutvij Patel.
He also named Mahesh Patel and Ravi Patel, who had quit PAAS and joined the BJP, in his complaint. The court will take up the application for hearing on Wednesday.
Narendra told The Indian Express that in his complaint, he had accused the six of cheating, bribery, extortion, criminal breach of trust, criminal intimidation, buying or disposing a person as a slave.
On Sunday evening, Patel held a press conference in Ahmedabad to announce that he had joined the BJP. Hours later, he accused the BJP of offering him Rs 1 crore as “bribe”. On Monday, Patel displayed bundles of currency notes, which he claimed was an “advance of Rs 10 lakh” given to him by the BJP, and claimed that his announcement of joining the ruling party was part of his “sting operation” to “expose” it.
In his complaint, Narendra alleged that Varun had contacted him from three different numbers and asked him to join the BJP, while promising a reward in return. Narendra said he wanted to see how Varun and the BJP were trying to sabotage the Patidar quota stir and continued speaking with him.
Narendra also explained how Varun took him to Gandhinagar and fixed a meeting with the Gujarat BJP president. He said Vaghani asked him to join the BJP as “Patidars did not have any future in PAAS” and even offered Rs 1 crore. The PAAS member said Vaghani tried to buy him over like a slave and he rejected the offer. However, Vaghani got agitated at this and threatened him to join the BJP or face false criminal charges.
Narendra claimed that he wore the saffron sash of BJP on Sunday before the media out of fear. But subsequently, some of his Patidar friends convinced him to expose the machinations of BJP to sabotage the Patidar quota stir and eventually he did a press conference in Ahmedabad, Narendra mentioned in his complaint.
