Come December 18 and Gujarat's fate will be decided as the counting of votes begins. The state went to polls in two phases on December 9 and December 14 to select candidates for its 182-member Legislative assembly. An overall turnout of 67.75 percent was registered, a drop of four percent from the 2012 turnout. VVPAT-fitted EVMs were used for the first time in the state at 50,128 polling stations. While these elections will be a litmus test for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who left no stone unturned in campaigning extensively for his party in his home turf, for Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who stayed in news more for his temple runs than for his speeches, it is an opportunity to prove his leadership to his partymen.
