Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis campaigned for the BJP in Telangana on Tuesday and said the Bharat Rashtra Samithi led by K Chandrashekar Rao was facing multiple challenges and would therefore lose the Assembly polls.

“In the last one year, the BRS led by KCR held many rallies in Maharashtra. They made huge promises to the farmers in Maharashtra. But the ground reality is something else. KCR is himself standing on slippery ground in his home state of Telangana,” the BJP leader said in Hyderabad, starting a day-long election campaign.

Addressing a gathering at Domalguda, Fadnavis said, “The BRS has realised it is facing difficulty in gaining public support, as the BJP is giving them a tough fight. Therefore, KCR has already started financing some of the Congress candidates so that they can reach out if they require support.”

“From TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) to BRS, it has changed its name. Now, it’s time to take a new name, FRS (Failed Rashtra Samithi),” the BJP leader said, adding that his party would make inroads in the state.

The BRS has systematically projected KCR’s leadership and welfare schemes through advertisements, Fadnavis said, adding that there was a huge mismatch between the promises and the reality.

“During my tenure as chief minister of Maharashtra, the Telangana leader had approached us for water. The surplus water from Maharashtra was flowing into the sea. So we considered their demand and helped them. They built a dam and barrages,” he said.

“Much to our shock, the barrages they constructed to channel surplus water from Maharashtra to Telangana have developed cracks. Now if these dams and barrages break because of shoddy work, it will lead to floods in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur because of backwater flow,” he added.

The BJP leader also accused the Telangana government of rampant corruption. “They have done little for farmers, the poor and Dalits,” he said.

Telangana will go to the polls on November 30.
