Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took a jibe at the Congress over the tussle between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, saying that the Congress party first punished Rajesh Pilot and is now punishing his son.
Speaking at an election rally in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district’s Kotri, Modi said anyone who raises voice against the family will be destroyed.
“Rajesh Pilot ji had once challenged this family of Congress, for the betterment of Congress. He had (later) bent down but this family is such that it gave punishment to Rajesh ji and is now punishing his son. Rajesh Pilot is no more, but the grudge is being vented out on his son,” PM Modi added.
The late Rajesh Pilot, the father of Sachin Pilot, had contested the 1997 Congress presidential election against Sitaram Kesri.
“I can see that the leaders of the Congress who say that they will once again make Gehlot ji the CM, are challenging the youngsters who have belief in Bhagwan Devnarayan. Look at the pride of leaders of Congress from Delhi. You know the history of Congress. If there is anyone who speaks the truth in Congress and because of speaking the truth, if this family of the Congress is caused with even a little bit of inconvenience, then that person’s politics has gone into a pothole,” Modi said. “This is their dynastic politics,” said Modi.
The Bhilwara district, of which Kotri is a part, has a substantial population of the Gujjar community, to which Pilot belongs. In the 2018 Assembly elections, the Gujjar community – traditional voters of the BJP – had voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Congress in the hope that Pilot would become the chief minister. The main deity of the Gujjar community is Lord Devnarayan, who the PM invoked in his speech.
Modi also criticised the party over issues such as ‘appeasement’, atrocities against women and alleged failure to curb communal incidents.
“All of the Congress’s black deeds have been registered in the red diary. That is why on just hearing the name of the red diary, Gehlot ji gets red with anger,” said Modi. The Prime Minister also spoke about the various promises made by the BJP in its manifesto and said that in the last five years the Congress couldn’t give a secure environment to Rajasthan.
Earlier in the day, while addressing another public meeting in Dungarpur’s Sagwara, Modi said that the people of Rajasthan should keep it in writing that an Ashok Gehlot government will not be formed this time or ever in future.
“The paper leak mafia has destroyed the future of Rajasthan’s youth. What is coming out of raids on Congress leaders, gold bricks are being recovered from lockers and the pages of the red diary of black deeds which are being opened contain the black truth of the Congress government. Democracy has given you a chance to change this Congress government which does misrule,” Modi said.
Without taking its name, Modi also targeted the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP), which is contesting several seats in southern Rajasthan and accused it of being hand in gloves with the Congress. The Sagwara seat was among the two Assembly constituencies won by the Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) in 2018. This year, the BAP, which has been formed after a split in the BTP, is contesting several seats in the region.
“Even if your one vote goes to any other party other than the ‘lotus’ (BJP’s election symbol), then also it will go straight to the Congress. These second people who are standing here because of their (Congress’s) plan. Last time too, they committed a paap (sin) and misled you, this time they are doing it by taking a new name,” said Modi.
“Congress is behaving with poor tribals the way the British did by considering them slaves. The Congress has always harmed the self-respect of easy, truthful and loyal adivasis,” Modi added.
Modi said that everyday thousands of people go to Gujarat to see the statue of unity of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, but till date no Congress leader visited it.
“Congress is not for Dalits, backward people, tribals or the poor. Congress has ended up being the slave of one family,” said Modi.
Modi said that during his roadshow in Jaipur on Tuesday, he noticed that the posters of the Congress party didn’t have the photo of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge but they had photos of an MP (Rahul Gandhi). “Kharge ji is such a big Dalit leader. Had you put a picture of him, you would not have lost your jobs,” said Modi. .
Modi said that after it comes to power, the BJP will take Rajasthan to the top in every field. He added that the public had made its mind and has given its blessings to the BJP, which has started the countdown for the Congress to go out.
