“Punjab Police Thursday said jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi had confessed to being the “mastermind” in Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s killing, which was being planned since August 2021.

Bishnoi has confessed to hatching the conspiracy with Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, Sachin Thapan and Anmol, according to Punjab Police ADGP Pramod Ban. “The plan to carry out the killing was being hatched since August last year.

The ADGP said: “”According to our information, recce was done thrice. “A four-member delegation led by Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, including top Finance Ministry officials, assured the Sri Lankan leadership on Thursday that New Delhi is ready to help Colombo’s quick economic recovery by promoting investments, connectivity and strengthening economic linkages.

The delegation — which included Ajay Seth, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance; Dr V Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Advisor; and Kartik Pande, Joint Secretary of the Indian Ocean Region, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) — met President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Colombo. “The Kerala High Court on Thursday granted bail to two Youth Congress workers, who protested against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on board an aircraft after it landed at Thiruvananthapuram airport, saying their further custodial interrogation was not required.

Justice Viju Abraham also granted anticipatory bail to the third accused in the case and directed him to surrender before the investigating officer (IO) on June 28 for interrogation and to cooperate with the probe. The first two accused — Furseen Majeed and R K Naveen — who were arrested on June 14 and in the custody of the investigating agency till date were ordered to be released on bail by the court subject to the conditions that each of them would furnish a bond of Rs 50,000 with two sureties of the like amount.”
“The NIA on Thursday arrested three persons, including a Telangana High Court lawyer, “for their involvement in motivating and recruiting youth for the proscribed organisation CPI (Maoist)”.

The lawyer, identified as Chukka Shilpa, was arrested in connection with a case the agency registered on June 3 with regard to recruitment of a college student in the Maoist outfit. The other two accused have been identified as Dongari Devendra and Dubasi Swapna.

The agency also conducted searches at three locations Ranga Reddy, Medak and Secunderabad districts in connection with the case. NIA said in a statement: “During the searches conducted, incriminating materials including digital devices have been seized.”””
“Let us now look at the top international headlines: Jurors at a civil trial found Tuesday that Bill Cosby sexually abused a 16-year-old girl at the Playboy Mansion in 1975.

The Los Angeles County jury delivered the verdict in favour of Judy Huth, who is now 64, and awarded her USD 500,000.

Jurors found that Cosby intentionally caused harmful sexual contact with Huth, that he reasonably believed she was under 18, and that his conduct was driven by unnatural or abnormal sexual interest in a minor. The jurors’ decision is a major legal defeat for the 84-year-old entertainer once hailed as America’s dad.”
“A powerful earthquake struck a rural, mountainous region of eastern Afghanistan early Wednesday, killing 1,000 people and injuring 1,500 more in one of the country’s deadliest quakes in decades, the state-run news agency reported. Officials warned that the already grim toll may still rise.

Information from the remote area near the Pakistani border remained scarce, but early footage from villages tucked among the rough mountains showed residents picking through rubble of collapsed stone and mudbrick houses.

The disaster posed a major test for Afghanistan’s Taliban government, which seized power nearly 10 months ago as the U.S. and its NATO allies prepared to pull out of the country and has been largely shunned by the world community since.”
“Lastly, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Moscow’s massive air and artillery attacks were aimed at destroying the entire Donbas region and urged Ukraine’s allies to accelerate the shipment of heavy weapons to match Russia on the battlefield.

Oleksiy Arestovych, adviser to the Ukrainian President said, the fight for the twin cities of Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk in Ukraine’s Luhansk region is “entering a sort of fearsome climax.” Russia is seeking to capture both Luhansk and Donetsk, which make up the nation’s industrial heartland, the Donbas region. Zelenskiy said he had spoken to eleven EU leaders on Wednesday about Ukraine’s candidacy and is in the process of negotiating with more. He claimed to have believed that all twenty-seven EU countries would support Ukraine’s candidate status.
