You are listening to the Expresso Entertainment Update. Here is the latest news from the world of South Indian Cinema brought to you by The Indian Express.
“Let us begin today’s bulletin with news on actor Dhanush. The trailer of Dhanush’s upcoming film Thiruchitrambalam is out, and it promises a heartwarming comedy drama. Dhanush is playing the titular character, who is a delivery guy.
In Thiruchitrambalam, the protagonist seems to have issues with his father, a policeman (played by Prakash Raj). However, everything seems pretty light-hearted in the film, and it is good to see Dhanush back in the comedy zone after a while.
The film also brings back the popular duo – Anirudh Ravichander and Dhanush. Fondly known as DnA, the combo is known for churning out chartbusters.
Speaking of Actor Dhanush, who was recently seen in the Russo Brothers’ action film The Gray Man, is all set to return in the sequel. Netflix announced on the heels of the first film’s release that new instalments of the franchise are underway, including a sequel starring Ryan Gosling along with a spin-off that’s still in its early stages. Dhanush took to social media and shared that he will be returning as the assassin Avik San, aka Lone Wolf.
He wrote on Twitter, “The Gray Man universe is expanding and the sequel is coming… Lone Wolf is ready, are you? #TheGrayMan.” He also shared an audio clip with the post, in which he had a message for Gosling’s Sierra Six character. ”
“Moving on, Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan tasted the biggest commercial success in his career spanning over six decades with his last film Vikram. The movie, which was written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, was released on June 3 and completed 50 days in theatres in Tamil Nadu.
Vikram marked the return of Kamal to the big screen after a gap of four years. The film was a spin-off of a spy character that Kamal had created for his 1985 movie Vikram. So would the success of Vikram change the kind of movies that Kamal, who has had his fair of huge commercial failures, usually makes?
During an interview, Kamal Haasan resoundingly said no, while calling the audience “a multi-headed monster”.
“In other news, the latest movies Sita Ramam and Bimbisara brought much-needed relief to the Telugu film industry, which has been reeling under the audience’s total indifference to watching medium-budget movies in cinemas. Before the pandemic, the movies of certain stars came with a minimum guarantee of a decent opening and satisfying weekend business. However, in the last few months, the movies of stars such as Nani, Ravi Teja, and Naga Chaitanya have failed to deliver the minimum revenue that was expected of them.
However, Sita Ramam and Bimbsara sprung a surprise when they managed to record significant footfalls for a film of their size. Bimbisara collected a little over Rs 9 crore in Telugu states on its opening day.
“Speaking of Sita Ramam and Bimbisara, Vijay Deverakonda has commented and is currently promoting his upcoming film Liger, which also stars Ananya Panday in the lead role. Amidst his busy schedule, the Arjun Reddy actor took to Twitter to congratulate the teams of Sita Ramam and Bimbisara for their success. Despite releasing on the same date, both the Telugu movies have managed to rake in the moolah.
Congratulating the teams, Deverakonda tweeted, “Extremely happy to hear that 2 films on the same day have turned into hits. What a good day!”. He also wrote, “Congratulations to Nanda Murikalyan garu, and team for the great response to #Bimbisara”.
“Praises for Bimbisara are showering at their best. Telugu star Allu Arjun has heaped praise on the film which is also garnering good responses from audiences. The historical fantasy film, directed by Mallidi Vasistha, has Nandamuri Kalyan Ram in the titular role, who has also produced the film under his banner N.T.R Arts. On Twitter, Allu Arjun applauded Vassistha and Kalyan Ram for coming up with this unique attempt.
He wrote, “Big congratulations to #Bimbisara team. Very interesting & and engaging fantasy film. Impactful presence by @NANDAMURIKALYAN
garu. My respect for him for always bringing in new talent into the industry & attempting new kinds of films”
“Meanwhile, actor-filmmaker Sreenivasan recently attended Mazhavil Entertainment Awards 2022. The actor, who survived a heart complication and underwent bypass surgery in April, has not been in good health for the past few months. After a long time, Sreenivasan made a public appearance at the Awards function, which became more special when Malayalam superstar Mohanlal kissed him on stage. Sreenivasan can be seen sporting a weak smile.
The video of the heartwarming moment has gone viral on social media. Actor Aju Varghese took to Instagram to share the clip. The comments section of the post got flooded with emotional replies praising the evergreen duo. Fans also expressed their concern over his weakness. One user wrote, “It hurts to see him like this.”
We end this bulletin with news on Telegu star Nani. The actor who is known for his films Eega, Bhale Bhale Magadivoy, and Jersey, is currently busy with his upcoming film Dasara. Directed by debutant Srikanth Odela, the film also stars Keerthy Suresh in the female lead role. As a treat to his fans on Friendship Day, Nani took to social media to unveil a new poster from the movie. In the poster, if not for the bright shirt, it is hard to spot Nani as the actor is sporting a dense beard for the upcoming film. If his look and the poster are reminiscent of Rangasthalam, it’s because director Srikanth Odela was an erstwhile assistant director of Sukumar.
