"We begin today’s bulletin with news on filmmaker Soundarya Rajinikanth who on Wednesday took to Twitter to thank everyone who had sent birthday wishes and blessings to her on Tuesday. Along with a thank you note, she also uploaded a picture of herself, her newborn son and father Rajinikanth.
Soundarya welcomed her second son Veer earlier this month. She and her husband Vishagan are now parents to sons Ved and Veer. Soundarya’s birthday post featured the first picture of Veer. However, the mother of two covered her son’s face with an emoticon. Soundarya Rajinikanth also expressed gratitude for having a father like Rajinikanth.
"Meanwhile, as the release date for director Mani Ratnam‘s most-awaited movie Ponniyin Selvan 1 draws closer, the makers have doubled down on the promotional activities. On Wednesday, the makers released a behind-the-scenes video, which explains the gigantic effort that has gone into creating the Chola empire.
Renowned production designer Thota Tharrani noted that he was working with Mani Ratnam after 28 years. He worked with Ratnam during the early days of the latter’s career. In the video, Thota Tharrani revealed that extensive research went into getting the details to recreate the lost glory of the Chola empire. He said that he got some of the major architectural details by studying the temples that were built by the Cholas.
"In some exciting news, the title and the first look of Ajith’s upcoming film, which was tentatively called AK61, are out. Directed by H Vinoth, the upcoming movie is titled Thunivu. The first look poster features Ajith in a recliner holding a gun. The actor sports a dense white beard, and he is also seen wearing an ear stud in the picture.
The role and other details of Thunivu are unclear from the first look poster but looks like the film will be another actioner. The title is also similar to that of his previous ventures – Vivegam, Veeram and Valimai – which are celebrated character traits in a person. The details of the cast and crew of the film are yet to be unveiled.
"In other news, a small clip from director Gautham Menon’s interview with a Telugu entertainment channel is going viral. Gautham is asked by the interviewer how he managed to handle a huge star cast, including Simbu and Vijay Sethupathi, in his previous film.
Fun fact: Gautham hasn’t worked with Simbu and Vijay Sethupathi together in a movie yet. The interviewer seems to be under the impression that GVM helmed Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. However, the film was written and directed by Mani Ratnam. Instead of correcting the interviewer, Gautham embraced the question and identified himself as Mani Ratnam. By his own admission, Gautham is a huge fan of Mani Ratnam. So when he was mistaken for Ratnam, Gautham owned it with a big smile.
"Over the years, director Mani Ratnam, composer AR Rahman and lyricist Vairamuthu have delivered many memorable songs. However, Vairamuthu is not part of Ratnam’s dream project Ponniyin Selvan 1, which is gearing up for release. Several #MeToo allegations – including the one from singer Chinmayi – against the lyricist are speculated to be the reason behind the end of the collaboration. In a recent promotional event for Ponniyin Selvan in Chennai, Ratnam was asked whether he missed Vairamuthu while working on the film. In response, the filmmaker said, “Should I answer this question? It seems to be taking the conversation to a different tangent.”
For Ponniyin Selvan, a new lyricist named Ilango Krishnan was roped into pen three songs.
"Meanwhile, on Atlee’s 36th birthday, let's celebrate his nuanced milestones. Atlee assisted filmmaker Shankar in the films Enthiran (2010) and Nanban (2012) before making his debut as a director with Raja Rani (2013), which had Nayanthara and Arya in the lead roles. ‘Theri’ changed the graph of Atlee’s career instantly as it brought much-needed success to Vijay. Vijay went on to team up with him two more times in Mersal (2017) and Bigil (2019).
Going by his previous filmography, one can be sure that Atlee would make a commercial entertainer. Shah Rukh Khan called Bigil “a Chak De On steroids.” Above all, it should be remembered that all of Atlee’s four films have been box office successes.
"Moving on, actor Kajal Agarwal has resumed her fitness journey four months after delivering her first baby. She noted that while her endurance was nowhere close to her “pre-baby levels”, she was determined to get back in shape.
She wrote on her Instagram page, “Eager and excited, I jumped back into work 4 months post-partum! Little did I realise that it would feel like starting from scratch. My body wasn’t the same as how it used to be. Pre-baby, I could endure very long workdays with taxing amounts of physical activity AND then hit the gym. Post-baby, it’s been hard to get back my energy levels. Mounting a horse, let alone riding it, seemed like a huge task!”
"We end this bulletin with news on the movie ‘Liger’. Vijay Deverakonda’s movie has now arrived on streaming. The Hindi and Telugu versions of director Puri Jagannadh’s film are streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar. The film was released in theatres on August 25.
Liger also stars Ananya Panday, Ramya and Mike Tyson. The film’s story revolves around Vijay Deverakonda’s MMA fighter character, who rises from poverty and works towards becoming a world champion. The film was made on an estimated budget of Rs 125 crore, but its collections have been disputed. While a Bollywood Hungama report suggests that the film made just Rs 20 crore in India, Dharma Productions said that it made Rs 33 crore worldwide on day one.
