“Let us begin today’s bulletin with news on Ponniyin Selvan I. It is getting bigger by the day. The historical period drama, directed by Mani Ratnam, will become the first Tamil film to be released in IMAX format.
Madras Talkies, the production house behind the film, shared the development on its official Twitter handle. The post read, “Grand gets Grander! Experience #PS1 in IMAX, the first Tamil film to come out in IMAX In theatres on 30th September!”
Though Vijay’s 2018 film Bigil was released on IMAX screens in Chennai and Bengaluru, it was not screened in IMAX format. Thus, Mani Ratnam’s ambitious project Ponniyin Selvan becomes the first Tamil film to be released in IMAX format.
“Meanwhile, Tamil cinema’s power couple Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day by carrying around the national flag across Barcelona, Spain. Vignesh captioned, “Our flag, in Spain,” while sharing a photo of himself holding the national flag along with his wife Nayanthara.
He added, “75 years of independence! Happy Independence Day to all brothers & sisters! All the Indians across the globe! Let’s celebrate this day with a lot of pride and happiness! For being an Indian citizens we all should feel blessed! The freest, safest, democratic, secured and happy home in the world is our country,”
Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan are on a holiday in Spain. Vignesh has been sharing a lot of memorable moments from the trip.
“Moving on, Tamil superstar Vijay was snapped emerging out of a theatre after watching a movie in Hyderabad. It’s said that Vijay saw actor Nandamuri Kalyan Ram’s latest movie Bimbisara.
Bimbisara is a fantasy drama which released earlier this month. The film has become a hit at the box office with more than Rs 50 crore in its worldwide theatrical collection.
It’s worth noting that Vijay had acted in the revenge drama Aathi, which was the remake of Kalyan’s 2005 hit Athanokkade. Vijay is now busy shooting for his upcoming movie Varisu. The shoot is happening in Hyderabad at a brisk pace. Earlier, a video clip of Vijay shooting for a scene at a hospital was leaked on social media.
“In some dismal news, the members of the South Indian film fraternity have expressed shock after the untimely death of film journalist Kaushik LM. He was just 35. Kaushik went to sleep at 2 pm on Monday and he never woke up again. It is said that he suffered a cardiac arrest.
Kaushik was scheduled to attend the press meet held by the cast and crew of the upcoming movie Jiivi 2 the day after. But, when he did not show up at the venue, his friends in the media grew suspicious and called him. Their calls went unanswered. Only later during the day, did they found out about the sudden death of Kaushik.
“Meanwhile, Telugu actor Mahesh Babu has enlisted the services of celebrity fitness coach Lloyd Stevens to step up his fitness regime. Lloyd tweeted the photo of himself with Mahesh and captioned it, “Let’s do this.”
Lloyd has earlier trained some of India’s fitness inspirations including John Abraham and Ranveer Singh. Recently, he trained Jr NTR to achieve a Tarzan-like physique for his role as a tribal warrior in RRR.
It’s worth noting that Jr NTR’s body transformation created quite a positive buzz for RRR, which went on to achieve global fame since its release earlier this year. However, it is unclear whether Lloyd Stevens is hired to train him for his upcoming project, which will be directed by SS Rajamouli.
“In other news, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap admitted in a new interview that he isn’t the biggest fan of SS Rajamouli’s RRR, but predicted that the film will score an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature, provided that it is selected as India’s official entry.
RRR is currently the second-biggest film of 2022 in India behind KGF: Chapter 2, but the fictional period epic became a bonafide crossover hit in the United States. Anurag said that it has a 99% chance of being nominated at the Oscars. He said, “I enjoyed Pushpa, I didn’t enjoy RRR as much, because I’m a massive Rajamouli-Eega fan. When he makes me believe in something which only comes from his mind, I believe in it.”
“In some tragic news, veteran Malayalam actor Nedumbram Gopi, known for his pious roles in a handful of movies, succumbed to age-related ailments at a private hospital here on Tuesday, family sources said. He was 85.
A former employee of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Limited, Gopi entered tinsel town through the award-winning movie Kazhcha, directed by ace filmmaker Blessy.
His touching performance as a father and grandfather in the 2004 Mammootty-starrer had won wide appreciation. He later appeared in small but notable roles in a handful of movies, teaming with prominent directors including Jayaraj and actors like Suresh Gopi, Jayaram and so on.”
“Lastly, Malayalam actor-filmmaker Kunchacko Boban is basking in the commercial success of his latest movie Nna Thaan Case Kodu, which means ‘Sue Me’. He noted that during the extended holiday weekend, the film raked in Rs 25 crore from its worldwide ticket sales, making it a hit at the box office.
