You are listening to the Expresso Entertainment Update. Here is the latest news from the world of Hollywood brought to you by The Indian Express.
“Let us begin today’s bulletin with news on the movie Bullet Train. The stylized action romp film, starring Brad Pitt, arrived with a $30.1 million opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, as the last big movie of Hollywood’s summer recovery landed in theatres.
The Bullet Train debut for Sony Pictures was solid but unspectacular for a movie that cost $90 million to make and was propelled by Pitt’s substantial star power. Even if it holds well in the coming weeks, movie theatres have no major studio releases on the horizon for the rest of August.
It is likely to sap some of the momentum stirred by some of the fuming box office films. ”
“Meanwhile, veteran actor Pierce Brosnan wrapped up the filming of ‘The Last Rifleman’, which is directed by Terry Loane. The actor took to his social media pages and thanked his team, calling it a ‘dream’. He also shared more photos of his look as 89-year-old World War II veteran Artie Crawford for the film. For The Last Rifleman, Brosnan is sporting a bald grey wig with matching eyebrows.
He wrote, “The last Rifleman, it’s a wrap, what a beautiful dream it all was. Thank you Millennium FX … Neill and Vanessa for creating the look of Artie Crawford. Thank you, Sarah, Morgan, and Stephan for every day making Artie real before my eyes each morning for two hours”.
In other news, Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo made a startling revelation that Marvel president Kevin Feige wanted not two, but all six of the original Avengers dead in Avengers: Endgame. The director duo said that they felt Kevin’s pitch of killing all the Avengers was way too aggressive.
Joe said, “There were lots of rumours swirling about who was gonna die. Kevin did pitch, at one point, taking all the OGs off the board. We thought it was way too aggressive and that the audience wouldn’t be able to process it. And that picking one or two characters to make sacrifices throughout the movie might give you moments throughout the film where the action could stop.”
“In some dismal news, Hollywood actor Anne Heche, known for starring in films such as Six Days, Seven Nights, Donnie Brasco and I Know What You Did Last Summer, has met with an accident. She crashed her car into a Los Angeles house, where both the car and the building caught fire.
Anne crashed her blue Mini Cooper into a Mar Vista, Los Angeles, igniting a fire. She was taken to a hospital with severe burns on her body. As per an eye-witness, when the 53-year-old actor was taken on a stretcher she was “conscious and breathing.”
It took 59 firefighters 65 minutes to extinguish the fire caused by the collision between Anne’s car and a “heavily damaged” house.
In some shocking news, reality TV star and business magnate Kim Kardashian and her actor-comedian boyfriend Pete Davidson have reportedly parted ways. As per an E! report, the two have decided to end their relationship of nine months, but remain friends.
A source close to the couple told the news portal that the reason for Kim and Pete’s break up is the “long-distance dynamic and their demanding work schedules”.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians alum Kim made her relationship with Davidson on an Instagram official in March this year. She had posted a few love-soaked photos with the actor-comedian after the two were spotted together on numerous occasions. ”
“Meanwhile, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah received supportive messages from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, and filmmakers Edgar Wright and James Gunn after their upcoming film Batgirl were canned by Warner Bros. Batgirl, a $90 million superhero spinoff that would’ve also featured Michael Keaton’s Batman, was designed as an HBO Max exclusive.
Adil & Bilall recently collaborated with Marvel on the Disney Plus show Ms Marvel. Adil, who learned about Batgirl’s cancellation during his wedding, reposted the email he and Bilall received from Feige. It read: “ I had to reach and let you know we are all thinking about you both. Because of the wonderful news about the wedding (congrats!) and the disappointing news about ‘Batgirl.”
“Moving on, filmmaker Jordan Peele‘s much-awaited movie Nope will hit the Indian theatres on August 19, Universal Pictures announced recently. The sci-fi horror movie is Peele’s third directorial after critically-acclaimed titles Get Out (2017) and Us (2019).
It revolves around siblings who run a horse ranch in the state of California, where the residents of a lonely gulch witness peculiar, ominous activities in the skies above. Worsening the situation is the owner of an adjacent theme park, who is trying to profit from the mysterious, otherworldly phenomenon. Nope reunites Peele with his Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya, who won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his performance in Judas and the Black Messiah.
“We end this bulletin with news on Lady Gaga. The singer-actor has confirmed that she will be starring opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming movie Joker: Folie a Deux. The film is the sequel to 2019’s Todd Phillips-directed anti-hero character study Joker.
Gaga announced her casting in the Warner Bros project via a teaser she posted on her Instagram page. The video clip is set to “Cheek to Cheek”, the song Gaga famously covered with legendary singer Tony Bennett. Reports of Gaga’s casting as Harley Quinn have been doing the rounds ever since Phillips confirmed in June that he was working on the sequel with Phoenix returning in the lead role. Unlike the dark and gritty Joker, the sequel is being created as a musical. ”
