The Maharashtra and Haryana state election results yesterday threw up a spate of surprises. The day ended with BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra on course to retain leadership, although with a reduced majority. The Shiv Sena also performed well, giving the partner more bargaining room in the alliance. Haryana, on the contrary, appears to be heading towards a hung assembly, with no clear majority for either BJP or Congress.
