The Sonbhadra killings, Sheila Dikshit’s legacy and Hindi imposition
Last week, ten people were killed and 28 injured in clashes and shooting over a land dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district. The dispute, which revolves around a 145 bigha land, is between the Gond community (classified as Dalit) and the pradhan of the village and his family. Asad Rehman, who is reporting on the story, joins us on a call from the Sonbhadra district to tell us about the case. Next, Shubhajit Roy, who reported on the Delhi government extensively during Sheila Dikshit’s tenure, talks about her career, legacy and her role in transforming Delhi into a world class city. And last, the reason why an examination in Tamil Nadu was cancelled after protests by political parties in the state assembly and the Rajya Sabha.
