This is the Catch Up on 3 Things for the Indian Express and I’m Damini Jaiman. 

It’s the 5th of May and here are the headlines.

The Delimitation Commission tasked with redrawing the assembly constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir met today and decided that Nine seats would be reserved for STs for the first time and all five Parliamentary constituencies will have an equal number of Assembly constituencies. 

As per the final Delimitation Order, out of the 90 Assembly constituencies in the region, 43 will be a part of Jammu region and 47 of the Kashmir region. 

Meanwhile, today a magisterial court in Gujarat’s Mehsana convicted Jignesh Mevani and nine others for holding a rally in July 2017 without police permission. All the convicts have been sentenced to three months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 each. The court of additional chief judicial magistrate J A Parmar passed the judgement and observed that “it is not an offence to hold rally but it is an offence to hold rally without permission”. 

According to Border Security Force today, A cross-border tunnel originating from pakistan has been found in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district. a BSF spokesperson said that the tunnel is 150 metres long and has been dug in the last few days. 

Meanwhile, Political strategist Prashant Kishor today announced a 3,000 km “padyatra” in Bihar, stating that he won’t be forming a political party as of now. He said that in line with his previous announcement about working for the people, he will be travelling across Bihar from October 2, to understand people’s issues. 

In a joint operation, the Haryana police, Punjab police, and central security agencies have arrested four suspected terrorists early today morning after intercepting their vehicle on the Ambala-Delhi national highway and seized arms and ammunition from it. According to the police, the men were taking the consignment to Adilabad in Telangana.

The SHE team of the Vadodara city police has successfully nabbed 70 “Romeos” as part of its ‘Romeo Decoy’ drive across Vadodara city to crack down and apprehend eve-teasers from locations frequented by women and teenagers. In 56 such drives undertaken since the drive was launched in mid-December 2021, the SHE team has nabbed and booked 70 persons for indulging in eve-teasing and harassment of women and teenagers.

With Russia concentrating its war efforts in eastern Ukraine, fighting has escalated at Mariupol’s steel plant. Today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for a prolonged ceasefire in the city to allow the evacuation of civilians.
