The headlines this evening from the Indian Express.

TRANSCRIPT

This is the catch up on 3 Things for the Indian Express and I’m Snigdha Sharma.

Today is the 29th of April and here are the headlines

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India is headed for a robust economy and the country’s consumption of semi-conductors is expected to cross USD 110 billion by 2030 and has the world’s fastest growing start-up eco-system. He said India is set to lead the next technology revolution and investments are being made in developing capabilities in 5G among other things.

The Standing Technical Sub-Committee of the NTAGI has recommended inclusion of the Serum Institute’s Covovax in the national COVID-19 vaccination programme for children aged 12 to 17 years, sources said on Friday. India’s drug regulator had approved Covovax for restricted use in emergency situations in adults on December 28 last year and in the 12-17 age group, subject to certain conditions, on March 9.

Lieutenant General BS Raju, currently serving as the DG Military Operations, is set to become the next Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS). He will succeed Lt Gen Manoj Pande, who has been named the new Chief of Army Staff. Lt Gen Raju’s appointment as VCOAS is a rare incidence where an officer who has not been an Army Commander will be taking over as the Vice Chief. Lt Gen Raju had earlier headed Srinagar-based 15 Corps.

Muneer Ahmad Kataria moved an application last week before Principal District and Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma asking his intervention in “incidents of harassment faced by the applicant”, and sought directions to jail authorities to take appropriate action. The court has directed jail authorities to submit a report in this regard.
