Kashmir block elections, Delhi air pollution, Shiv Sena’s Haryana candidate

More than 60 days into the lockdown in the Valley, many officials on the ground are finding it hard to sustain Delhi’s “everything is normal” narrative. P Vaidyanathan Iyer, who travelled through Srinagar, Shopian and Pulwama districts for a week and coordinated reports from our J&K reporters Bashaarat Masood and Adil Akhzer, details why police there have detained thousands of Kashmiris and why parties other than the BJP are refusing to contest the Block Development Council (BDC) polls. CM Arvind Kejriwal, recently announced that Delhi has managed to reduce air pollution by 25% in the last four years. Mallica Joshi, who reports on the environment for the Indian Express, explains how it managed to do that and why the move to improve air quality needs to extend to other states as well. Last, why the Shiv Sena in Haryana has given a ticket to one of the two men accused of attacking activist Umar Khalid last year.
