3 Things

Our flagship daily news show, where hosts Shashank Bhargava and Snigdha Sharma talk to in-house experts about what is going on and why you need to care about it.

Episode 1712 January 5, 2022

How muslim women were targeted by an online ‘auction’ again

Over 100 muslim women were recently targeted by a website that used their photos without consent, and posted degrading texts which implied that they were being auctioned. Though this is not the first time that this is happening. Six months back, a similar website had done the same thing. Both of them were hosted on Github, the world’s largest open-source developer community platform.

In this episode, we first speak to Indian Express’ Jignasa Sinha, who has been tracking this story, and has been speaking to the women who were targeted. She tells us about the website, and what these women have been going through.

Next, Indian Express’ Aashish Aryan talks about the procedure the authorities have to follow to catch such culprits.

And in the end, Indian Express’ Shruti Dhapola tells us about Github, and what it has said in response to the complaints against the website.
