How India ignored red flags about the second COVID-19 wave

India has been struggling to deal with the second COVID-19 eave. This wave, which is bigger than the first one, came as a surprise to many, including some health experts. But at the same time, there were others who had warned us about this. It is now evident that red flags raised by serosurveys and genome sequencing were ignored, and this left us ill-prepared to fight against the latest surge in case.

In this episode, first Amitabh Sinha, who writes on matters of science for the Indian Express (IE), explains what these red flags were, the reasons many chose to ignore them, and the importance of serosurveys and genomic sequencing.

And in the end, Kaunain Sheriff, who reports on health for IE, talks about how the hospitalisations in the second wave are different from the first (22:28).
